Author

  • Who is the author?
  • Is this person qualified?
  • What are his/her credentials and background?
 

Publisher/Publishing Information

  • What organization/individual is responsible for disseminating the document?
  • Is the publishing source reliable?
  • Note importance of domains in the URL's:
    • edu=education
      gov=government
      com=commercial
      org=non-profit organization
 

Date/Currency

  • What is the date of the publication and/or site?
  • Beware of a Web publication with no date.
  • How current is the site?
  • Is the site updated on a regular basis?
 

Content of Document/Scope/Objectivity

  • What is the purpose of the publication?
  • Who is the intended audience?
  • What type of information covered?
    • Scholarly vs. popular
      Advertisement
      Entertainment
  • Is the information research-based or opinion-based?
  • Is the document biased or unbiased?
  • How accurate/reliable is the information?
  • Are the sources documented, .e.g., references given?
 

Organization of Site

  • Is the site easy to navigate?
  • Is there a table of contents/site directory?
  • Is the site searchable?
  • Is the information well-organized?
