Basic Guidelines for Evaluation of Web Sites

Author	Who is the author? Is this person qualified? What are his/her credentials and background?
Publisher/Publishing Information	What organization/individual is responsible for disseminating the document? Is the publishing source reliable? Note importance of domains in the URL's: edu=education gov=government com=commercial org=non-profit organization
Date/Currency	What is the date of the publication and/or site? Beware of a Web publication with no date. How current is the site? Is the site updated on a regular basis?
Content of Document/Scope/Objectivity	What is the purpose of the publication? Who is the intended audience? What type of information covered? Scholarly vs. popular Advertisement Entertainment Is the information research-based or opinion-based? Is the document biased or unbiased? How accurate/reliable is the information? Are the sources documented, .e.g., references given?
Organization of Site	Is the site easy to navigate? Is there a table of contents/site directory? Is the site searchable? Is the information well-organized?
