Overview of an Issue: CQ Researcher
CQ Researcher
is a publication that provides an overview of
one public policy issue each month. Information provided includes background
and history of the topic, current issues currently being considered, arguments
on different sides of the debate, likely outcomes, and a bibliography of
important works on the topic. The full-text of the CQ Researcher is
available via the library's website.
Basic Article Database: Academic Search Elite
The Academic Search Elite database covers articles in key scholarly research journals from most academic disciplines. In addition, it covers articles from popular magazines (such as Newsweek or Rolling Stone) and the New York Times newspaper. To search only research journals, click the box to limit the search "Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals." Academic Search Elite provides full-text of the articles for roughly 50% of the journals it covers.
News Coverage: Proquest Newspapers
The Proquest Newspaperws include the
full-text of newspapers from around the country.
Most academic disciplines have a database that provides comprehensive coverage
for scholarly literature published in the field. To research an issue beyond
media reports and the basic coverage provided by Expanded Academic, choose what
discipline is likely to cover the topic and search the corresponding database.
Proquest and CQ Researcher include
immediate access to almost every article they list.
In Academic Search Elite, look for a "full-text" link undeneath a title
title to see if the entire article is provided by Academic Search Elite. If not, look for the
button.If the full-text is not immediately
available in a database, click
![]() Available for a specific article when the Find It! button displays next to a citation in a database like Academic Search Elite. The Find It! service should display one of the following three choices:
- accesses the text of the article in a different library subscription
- Note the date and/or volume of the desired article. Click the link and check the holdings in the Library Catalog to see if the library owns the desired date and/or volume.
- The library does not own this item, but you click the link to request it from another library. Items requested via Interlibrary Loan are usually available in 5-7 working days.
Interlibrary Loan Service
Interlibrary Loan is service provided by the University Library at no charge which
allows you to request a copy of a book or article the library does not own. Requested items are usually
available in 5- 7 working days.
Create an ILL Account
The first time you request
something from Interlibrary Loan, you will need to "create a new account."
Click one of the request links (book or article), and then Create a New Account.
Your Library ID Number is the barcode # on your Warrior Card (starting
with 20900).
Articles will be delivered online when possible. If not available
online, the Secondary Delivery options allows you to choose whether to
have the photocopies sent through the US Mail to your address or held in the
library so you can pick them up.
Books must be picked-up in the library. (You can choose either Turlock
or Stockton.)
