How can I obtain a telnet connection?
If the link you're trying to access includes the designation "telnet", you're dealing with a telnet connection rather than a Web-based resource. Some of the library catalogs (including Library Catalog) accessible from the Library's Web site can be accessed using telnet, though most of the databases are now exclusively Web-based. Telnet, which is used on the Internet to log on to computers remotely, is character-based and does not support the use of a mouse.
To connect to telnet-accessible databases and catalogs:
- Your Internet Service Provider must provide you with telnet service.
- You must have a telnet application installed on your computer.
- Your Web browser must be correctly configured to start the telnet application.
Most questions about configuring your computer for telnet should be directed to your Internet Service Provider.
