How can I obtain a telnet connection?

If the link you're trying to access includes the designation "telnet", you're dealing with a telnet connection rather than a Web-based resource. Some of the library catalogs (including Library Catalog) accessible from the Library's Web site can be accessed using telnet, though most of the databases are now exclusively Web-based.  Telnet, which is used on the Internet to log on to computers remotely, is character-based and does not support the use of a mouse.

To connect to telnet-accessible databases and catalogs:

  1. Your Internet Service Provider must provide you with telnet service.
  2. You must have a telnet application installed on your computer.
  3. Your Web browser must be correctly configured to start the telnet application.

Most questions about configuring your computer for telnet should be directed to your Internet Service Provider.
