Birds of the Pacific Slope by Andrew Jackson Grayson (1819 – 1869)

Published by The Arion Press (1986) is a boxed set of 156 unbound color plates and biography by Lois Chambers Stone and is on display in the West Reading Room.

Who was Andrew Jackson Grayson?
A pioneer (he brought his family to California in 1846), military-man (served with John C. Fremont), businessman (San Francisco, Stockton; he founded Grayson City in Stanislaus County) and an artist (self-taught) who considered his watercolors to be the completion of Audubon’s Birds of America.
