The Eucalyptus of California is a scholarly study concerning the history of the eucalyptus in California. There is no other publication like it! (One of the deans of California history evaluated it and called it a "solid manuscript" and a "spendid study!") The purpose of the work is to tell the story of this amazing tree and its impact on California. There is an array of literature, both scientific and historical on the eucalyptus, that only tells part of the story. This study is an attempt to fashion those parts into a tailored narrative that has clarity and imparts information to the reader. The focus is on important facts, major personalities, and key issues. Documentation is provided for further research and study of this fascinating tree.

Robert Santos is a librarian and archivist at California State University, Stanislaus where he has been a member of the faculty since 1970. He took his M.S. in library science at the University of Southern California and has published articles on library science, local history, and California history. His books include A Bibliography of Early California and Neighboring Territories through 1846 and Azoreans to California: A History of Migration and Settlement.
